Are you interested in teaching English to French students, all while being immersed in French language and culture? Embark on a life-changing opportunity to work as an English language assistant in France and its overseas territories!

What is the Language Assistant Program?

The Language Assistant Program—spearheaded by France Education International in France and run in the Philippines by the Embassy of France—offers Filipino students the opportunity to teach English in a French-speaking environment for seven months. This program will open over 4,300 language assistant positions for applicants to be assigned across all regions of France to teach in primary or secondary education. For the first edition of the program in the Philippines, around 3-5 candidates will be selected.

The program aims to improve English instruction in French schools by integrating fluent speakers into the classroom. It in turn offers participants a valuable pre-professional experience where they acquire teaching skills, exposure to the French language and culture, and an asset for their future careers.

Responsibilities

As a language assistant, you are expected to:

  • Improve students' communication skills, particularly spoken English, and deepen their knowledge of your culture and language;
  • Support the work of school teachers, modern language teachers, and teachers of non-linguistic subjects at the school or educational institution where you're assigned;
  • Lead and participate in educational activities, such as workshops introducing Philippine culture, creating resources, or running a language club.

Working Conditions

Successful applicants will fulfill a seven-month contract from October 1, 2025, to April 30, 2026, with no interruptions except for force majeure. They are expected to carry out a weekly workload of 12 teaching hours divisible between at most 3 closely-located institutions, hosting students in elementary, middle, and high school.

Accommodation

France Éducation International, the académies, and the host schools are not responsible for providing or funding accommodation for language assistants.

Language assistants are nonetheless advised to promptly communicate with their contacts in the académies who can suggest accommodations before their arrival. The Guide de l'Assistant de Langue in the downloadable documents section below also contains tips for finding lodging.

Compensation

  • MAINLAND FRANCE: A gross monthly stipend of 1,036 Euros. After mandatory deductions for insurance and social security, the net salary is estimated to be €780 to €820 depending on the region of assignment.
  • OVERSEAS TERRITORIES: Assistants in French Guiana, Guadeloupe, Martinique, and La Réunion will receive an additional salary allowance of 30% to 35%, or a net salary of 1,200 to 1,500 Euros.

Financial Requirements

Personal funds are required for the initial period of the contract as the first salary isn't paid until the end of October at the soonest. Assistants can expect to spend around 75,000 - 80,000 PHP on their arrival in France, with bigger rates in the Metropolitan Paris region due to its higher cost of living. Depending on the assigned school/s and institution/s, accommodation may be made available for the assistant.

Assistants are likewise responsible for purchasing their plane tickets to and from France covering any costs associated with traveling to the closest visa center in the Philippines for the visa application process.

Other Requirements

The Language Assistant Program is a pre-professional mobility program. For this reason, it is essential to outline your preferred region of assignment and your budget plan.

Applications are considered as commitments to the program. Any withdrawn application must be justified to prevent disqualification from future editions of the Language Assistant program.

Work Environment

The language assistant program offers vacancies in all regions of mainland France and overseas (French Guiana, Guadeloupe, Martinique, La Réunion). Candidates may indicate up to 3 preferred regions (or Académies) on their application.  Successful candidates are informed of the academy to which they have been assigned upon announcement of results in May. The assignment of region and establishment is at the academies' discretion.
